With the election campaign finish line in sight, President Joe Biden has caused a minor uproar by appearing to call Donald Trump supporters “garbage” in a video interview — Biden has insisted he was talking specifically about Trump rally comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who referred to Puerto Rico as an “island of garbage”.
“Hang on…Joe Biden is still the president?” says Daily Show host Ronnie Chieng in the clip above. “I mean calling Trump supporters ‘garbage’ right before the election feels like a crazy thing to say, even if you believe that. I mean, just wait six more days, man.”
Chieng goes on to say that the Democrats have also said Biden wasn’t actually calling Trump supporters garbage, but that his comment should have had an apostrophe in it to specify it was directed at Hinchcliffe.
“That’s right, in the last week of the campaign, Republicans are calling for a roundup of immigrants, and Democrats are like, ‘You have to put the apostrophe in the right place,'” says Chieng. “This election is really coming down to Nazis versus grammar Nazis.”
