When you’re dying to know what’s inside the major tech device releases but you don’t feel quite confident enough to rip off that expensive lid, the tech-savvy folks at iFixIt always have you covered. And in the site’s latest video, teardown tech Shahram Mokhtari deconstructed the Meta Quest 3S, the cheaper (but not very) alternative to the Meta Quest 3.
In order to assess how easy it is to disassemble the Meta Quest 3S for cleaning and DIY repair, the iFixIt team strips the VR headset down in the above video, removing every nut, bolt, and plastic faceplate. You can see how Mokhtari finds a lot of similarities to the discontinued Quest 2, including the Fresnel lenses, which are identical.
“This is really cool, there are a lot of broken Quest 2’s out there and it’s great to be able to salvage components to fix the latest iteration of the hardware,” he says.
Mashable took a deep dive into the differences between the Meta Quest 3S vs. Meta Quest 3, and you can also read Mashable tech editor Kimberly Gedeon’s review of the Meta Quest 3S.
